I wanted to try and incorporate the text from the statements I received, into my images. I want to try and link the images and the text together. I tried two different options, one was to individually add certain words down the side of the image, ranging in different size and colour to give some contrast. I like how this looks, by the text following the contour of the face and hair. I like how in the image, the model is looking straight down the camera, as if she is telling us these things herself, and is connecting with the viewer.
The next option was to apply the whole statement onto the image. This was a more finished look to the model, looking ready to go out. And the statement goes along with it, saying how she feels when she wears make up. I feel this one isn't as powerful, but allows the viewer to read the whole statement and get a better idea behind the concept of the image.
Next I looked at creating a postcard to go along with the exhibition images. I created a postcard on moo.com with the image on one side, and some of the words form the statements on the other. At beauty and make up counters in department stores, some companies create make up look cards, showing looks and how to create them using their products.
I wanted to try and recreate this, as something people could take away with them. But instead of actually make up steps, I wanted to add certain words. Words such as cover and apply, that would be actual actions someone would do when applying make up.
Over all I do like all these images, but I don't feel like they would be strong enough to stand alone in the exhibition. I want to show the process from start to finish, and by adding the text I feel it takes away the concept. I want to add the text into my work some how, and I think they best way would be a book. I also think the idea of the postcards may be lost with some people, I don't think they question enough, and just seem a little bit gimmicky. I think they would distract from the images on the wall, and would seem to lack much sense.
