We then talked about why I chose this subject, and my personal reasons for my research. I spoke about the starting point of my own blog, and my love for beauty. We talked about how this links with both, consumerism and feminism.
Some of the artist she recommended were, Oriana Fox, Laura Mulvey, Martha Rosla and artist I have previously looked at such as Lauren Greenfield. These artist look at different subjects such as;
- Capitalism
- Consumerism
- Performance
- Perfection
- Feminism
- Women in Sport
- Who is the audience?
- What kind of money is out into them?
- How much effort is put it?
- Do they show their true identities
- Or have they have a multiple self and only show what they wish to be seen?
- Do we see them as this happy self all the time?
- Is it realistic?
- Is this a performance for women
We then moved onto talking about my own relationship with beauty and my own blog. I talked about how much effort and money I have to put in, to make it as best as I can. How long it takes me to apply my makeup on an everyday basis. How much money I spend on products, and the research I put into products.
I decided for my first step to write in a diary, the things I buy and how much they cost. This will be an ongoing record to my spending on makeup, beauty, skincare and other products such as wipes and cotton pads to remove my makeup. I have also started to collect my used wipes and used makeup remover pads. I am not totally sure what I will do with these, but I want to work on this.
