Shoot 2 - Self

Self Portraiture

For my next shoot I took on the research I had done from Lauren Nakadates work, and chose to do some self portraits. I chose to photograph my self as I applied make up, as I do everyday. I set up the camera just behind the mirror, so that you could see from that angle all the expressions and actions I carried out. I wanted it to be un staged and natural, and I wanted the audience to what I was doing at each stage. With my target audience being mainly young women, I wanted the audience to see what I was doing, and to find themselves relating to what I was doing.

I wanted to show how when we apply make up, we do it as almost a daily ritual. We don't take a lot of notice how we actually look, just exactly where about we are applying the make up to our faces. I find myself applying make up as a morning routine, I wouldn't feel fully ready without it. I do the same things every day, I apply the same products and amounts everyday. I enjoy putting make up on, so I do it every day for this reason.

I feel these images aren't very flattering for myself, but show the reality of the task of make up application for women everyday. I didn't want to look straight into the camera, as I felt I would more likely put on a performance for the camera if I did this.
Over all I am happy with the outcomes. Even though some of the images are over exposed due to using natural light, I feel I captured what I wanted tot achieve. I don't think I will be using these as my final exhibition images, as I feel I could show my idea in a better way.
